Following the release of his highly anticipated LP Heartbeats, GRUM is coming to North-America for a few shows. We’ve seen this chap in Montreal a few months back and his set absolutely blew our socks off. As part of his US Tour he has two gigs North of 49° including a show in Toronto at Wrongbar on July 24th for which CANADISCO.COM has a pair of tickets to giveaway. Two long years after the release of their first EP, The French Machine (2008), Minitel Rose have finally dropped their first full-length, Atlantique, off Paris-based indy label FVTVR. This trio, often associated with the french DJ collective Valerie, have managed to stretch beyond the sound reminiscent of their early work by holding true to their influences from the graphical and musical universe of American 80′s pop culture but with contemporary panache. They’ve tailored a seamless brand of Disco Synth-Pop that powers this series of 13 anthemic tracks. I’ve listened to the album countless times over and despite the cheesy feel inherent to the genre I find myself enjoying every minute of it. If this record sets the tone for things to come for the gang at FVTVR, you can expect this label to explode in 2010.

If you followed us in March then you probably remember the sneak preview we brought you of DVAS’s latest single Society, where we labelled the song as potential “‘Summer Anthem”. Today, we’re proud to say that the band is finally releasing the single July and you can pre-order it today on Upper Class Recordings. To celebrate the release of the single, band has released a video for the song that is unfortunately a let-down compared to what we were expecting.

DVAS’s plans to release their first LP June 27th. This is one of our most anticipated albums of the Summer, and from what we’ve heard lately, it delivers.

A-Trak is one of those DJ’s that isn’t limited by specific genre. We have seen him jump head first into hip-hop, disco, and electro. However, he’s recently stepped away from hip-hop with his Infinity+1 mix and the formation of Duck Sauce with Armand Van Helden.

Earlier this week A-Trak relieved us all by releasing the follow up to his popular mix “Dirty South Dance” and showing everyone that he hasn’t left his hip-hop roots behind. ”Dirty South Dance 2” returns to the electro hip-hop mashups that made A-Trak famous and the best part is: he’s giving it out for free via Bandcamp. Grum + The Twelves = in Montreal

After a month filled with birthdays, exams and DJ Gigs CANADISCO is proud to be back in action. This past Saturday we kicked off our Summer at Le Belmont, where a capacity crowd welcomed Grum and The Twelves for a night of madness. Grum kicked it off with a great set that featured several of his classic remixes and originals(”Heartbeats” was meant to be played live). However, it was to our great surprise that he didn’t drop his latest single “Cant Shake This Feeling“. After his set we had the chance to catch up with him and asked him why he elected not to play his latest single and he explained that he just wasn’t sure about playing it live yet, which is outrageous. Following Grum Le Belmont offered us The Twelves who kept the crowd dancing with an energetic set that combined both DJing and live performance. They rocked a setup that included Ableton Live and two Midi-keyboard that they used to remix songs live, spoiling us with live remixes of Indeep’s “Last Night A DJ Saved My Life” and Human League’s “Do You Want Me” to name a few. Moullinex – White Light Vol. 23

Last week the White Light guys released another amazing mix from none other than CANADISCO favourite Moullinex. White Light Vol. 23 easily stands as the best we’ve heard so far. Here’s are a few words from Moullinex.

There’s something magical happening right before the end of a summer day.. that golden hour just before sunset, when things are tired, shadows become longest and the world is laid back, waiting for the night to come. These tracks belong to this very hour.

Kitsuné Maison 9 out April 26th!

Kitsuné’s Maison compilations have gone a long way. From it’s hypier beginnings to it’s latest Maison 8, which was soon forgotten (for me at least). It’s safe to say he whole brand seems to be losing steam… BUT WAIT! Kitsuné Maison and it’s organizers this time chose to take the artistic direction through the path of themes… Or is it a joke? Blame it all on a baby that was born recently in the Kitsuné entourage:

This new album was thought out, conceived and put together whilst this young child was being breastfed in the room next door. So logically the toddler has had some kind of influence on the new Kitsuné Maison compilation. Indeed here is officially the most snuggly, peaceful, motherly Kitsuné compilation until now – soft as cotton. In the midst of one of the worst winters Paris has known for a long time and with so many conflicts all around, we have been looking for calm and tenderness. As a result this new compilation brings you almost as much comfort as taking a newly born in your arms and giving him a cuddle.

I’m unsure if this is indeed serious or not, but this should be a trend worth following. Giving themes to compilations, instead of just… throwing a bunch of “cool” tracks together can only mean good things. In this case, giving the spotlight to lighter songs for once, gives the chance to other concepts to come to light. Long live themed compilations!!

There’s nothing better than to see two of your favourite artists working together, especially when they happen to be DVAS and Justin Faust. DVAS has been keeping quiet these days with the official release of their upcoming single “Society” right around the corner, but this Justin Faust remix of “Forever” is more than any fan could ask for. Like everything he’s been touching lately, Justin Faust has turned this DVAS classic into another great track for the dancefloor. Enjoy.

Christov has the dirtiest bass we’ve heard in a long time, it’s heavy yet not distorted or too loud. That along with rhythmic melodies is what makes Christov’s tracks so catchy and you’ll notice it right away in the tracks below.

“Mischief” is a genius track, perfectly paced with a heavy funky bass-line.
